Sarah Gaby-Trotz is a Toronto based fibre artist with a focus in feltmaking. Her work combines her love of local food with a vivid sense of imagination and whimsy. Sarah received an Honours BA from the University of Guelph in Studio Art in 2008, and more recently a certificate in Fibre Arts from Haliburton School of The Arts. Drawn to the warmth and vibrancy of raw wool, Sarah creates painterly wall hangings and sculptures that explore themes in local food and her connection to food, creativity and imagination. Her work combines both wet and needle felting techniques. Her work ranges from both highly realistic to painterly and expressive. Sarah is a member of the Ontario Crafts Council, and since graduating from Haliburton School of the Arts in 2012 has won awards at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition as well as the 2014 Spring One of a Kind Show. Most recently, Sarah has completed a residency at Lift Ground Print Studio/Gallery in Huntsville Ontario, where she had the opportunity to exhibit and develop new wearable pieces that express a distinct, dynamic and playful style, as well as offer workshops to aspiring felt makers.
