Skate Toronto! Check out the new Bentway trail

If ever there was a year to take up skating, this would be it! The frosty temps and glorious sunshine make lacing up a true winter joy. And now Toronto families have a new spot to express their inner Elvis Stojko as the The Bentway skating trail underneath the Gardiner Expressway is now open.

For now, the trail is a 220m loose figure 8 that loops between four “rooms” created by the big columns, or bents, that hold up the Gardiner near Fort York.

The trail is part of a larger cultural reimagining that aims to make better use of the space under the key (and notable ugly) artery leading into the city core. Eventually, the Bentway will span 1.75 kilometres, from Spadina to Strachan Avenue, becoming part of a loose network of parks stretching from the city’s Trinity Bellwoods Park, to the waterfront.

For the rest of the winter, the Bentway will  be open for business and includes FREE skate rentals and lessons! There will also be community programs, DJ performances and even programs to teach kids to use DJ turntables.

This truly is the winter to lace up!
